While only the photographer is holding the camera, photography is a collaborative process. We work with clients to ensure that the photographs meet their goals and exceed their expectations. Our approach differs by project, clients, and goals of each shoot – every project is created to meet a client’s specific need. Our knowledge of lighting is vast: we can create virtually any atmosphere and work around difficulties such as unwanted reflections. Our work process is to tether the camera to a laptop as we’re working so clients can immediately review their photos and provide feedback. Working this way allows us to leave a photo shoot confident that our clients are thrilled with the results.
Prior to Shoot | The process begins by meeting with the client virtually or in person to review photography needs and goals for project. During the meeting, the timeline of project is confirmed, key people to be photographed are listed (additionally – research is done to look them up if needed, to be sure to recognize them during the shoot), and the photo delivery date is agreed upon. Our aim is to be fully prepared for a shoot so that we can also be flexible during a shoot should things change, as they sometimes do.
During Shoot | We strive for flexibility during the shoot and are happy to take photo requests on the fly, knowing that unplanned moments happen and can be just the shot that’s needed. As we move through our day(s), we treat everyone with respect and kindness, using a collaborative approach with the client and the individuals being photographed. Throughout the shoot, we often work closely with the client team to ensure all key guests and moments are included in photography; however, we can work independently when this is preferred/required. We also take time to ensure photos meet sizing constraints as required for the images (e.g., needing to add logo or type onto image). Our work process is to tether the camera to a laptop as we’re working so clients can immediately review their photos and provide feedback. Working this way allows us to leave a photo shoot confident that our clients are thrilled with the results. We create lighting diagrams to allow us to recreate images later, for example, when individuals and groups need to be photographed in the same way, over multiple sittings, across the years.
After Shoot | Once the required photography is completed, the work to edit, process, and deliver images begins. Clients’ deadlines are adhered to through open and early communication to set expectations, and diligent work provides delivery of photos on time, even within extremely tight time frames. To support communication with clients in reviewing and choosing images, we divide photos in folders labelled “favourites” and “more photos” for ease and efficiency. Once selected, we deliver high and low-resolution images via a Dropbox folder.
“Over the past 20+ years, I’ve worked with Roger on numerous photography projects, including stills for advertising or various websites we’ve launched. Roger has also been our go-to for headshots whenever our old profile pictures start looking like they belong in a time capsule. The experience is consistent; we always achieve the desired outcome. On every shoot, there’s a special moment when relief and excitement set in—realizing we already have what we need in the can and there’s still time left to get more.”
